The Ocean, the HeArt, and the Healing I Didn’t See Coming

Updated: May 29

It’s a mystery - when you give a piece of your heart, where does it go?

“I wish I knew who bought this heart at the silent auction - where in the world it ended up. But maybe that’s the magic." Life can be strange. You pour your heart into something, then let it go, not knowing where it will end up. That’s exactly what happened with the Art Heart I created for SF General Hospital’s silent auction.

This piece was born during a time when my heart felt shattered. While creating this Art Heart, something incredible happened. Every wave I poured was a quiet act of healing. Each layer added a little more light to the cracks of my heart.

Amidst that pain, I found myself creating a heart-shaped piece of art. At that moment, I didn’t fully understand what I was experiencing. But now, it all makes sense.

Every wave I poured into that heart was a meditative act of healing. Each layer of resin, every swirl of pigment, and every moment spent with it was a process of putting myself back together. I wasn’t just making art; I was mending, healing, and transforming myself without realizing the impact my work might have on others.

My art has a quiet way of healing both me and others. Through every hardship, I always find my way back to creation. Even when I don’t realize it, I emerge feeling lighter, more whole, and deeply connected. Each time, I’m reminded that art doesn’t just express; it also mends and connects.

When the heart was finished, I donated it for auction at The Gala for the San Francisco General Hospital. I had no idea who would end up with it. It was a silent auction - no name, no address, no story attached. Just... gone. Yet, it sold for $15,000, an amount that still amazes me. That money directly supported the healing work at SF General Hospital. I often wonder about how many lives it touched and how many hearts it helped mend at the hospital.

Even though I don’t know where that heart is now, or who sees it each day, I know what it represents. It became care; it became love in motion. It turned into a ripple of healing that I may never fully witness.

That’s the mystery. That’s the magic.

We never truly know where the pieces of our heart go. Yet, sometimes, they end up exactly where they are needed the most.

That’s the truest form of art - love, transformed into healing, sending ripples of care far beyond what we can see.

Art is forever.
